How does a portable plantar pressure plate work?

Portable plantar pressure plates are mainly used to measure the pressure distribution on the sole of the foot when the human body is standing or walking. They are widely used in medical rehabilitation, motion analysis, orthopedic insole customization, gait research and other fields. Its core working principle is based on pressure sensing technology, data acquisition and analysis system, as follows:

  1. Sensors measure plantar pressure

Portable plantar pressure plates usually use the following sensors to sense the pressure in different areas of the sole:

Piezoelectric film sensors: generate electrical signals through pressure changes, suitable for high-sensitivity dynamic detection.

Resistive sensors: When pressure increases, resistance changes and is converted into plantar force information.

Capacitive sensors: Detect pressure in different parts of the sole based on capacitance changes.

Function: These sensors are distributed on the board to form multiple sensing units (usually hundreds to thousands of sensing points), which can accurately capture the force conditions of different foot areas.

Foot Pressure Analysis System
  1. Data acquisition and wireless transmission

After the sensor detects the pressure, it converts the data into electrical signals and then transmits them to the built-in microprocessor.

Data transmission method:

Wired connection (USB, serial port): suitable for laboratory or fixed equipment use.

Wireless transmission (Bluetooth, Wi-Fi): Portable devices mostly use wireless methods to transmit data to computers, mobile phones or tablets.

Function: Real-time recording of plantar pressure distribution, which can be used for static standing analysis and dynamic gait detection.

  1. Data analysis and visualization

Software processing: Data is transmitted to dedicated software, and the force values of different areas of the plantar are calculated through algorithms, and a pressure heat map (pressure distribution map) is generated.

Common analysis data:

Maximum pressure point (the area with the most concentrated force on the plantar)

Center of gravity trajectory (how the center of gravity moves over time)

Difference in pressure between left and right feet (gait balance)

Gait cycle analysis (stride, step frequency, etc.)

Function: These data can be used to analyze plantar problems, evaluate gait abnormalities, design corrective insoles, etc.

  1. Portable features

Lightweight design, easy to carry, suitable for outdoor testing or multi-scenario use.

Integrated power supply (lithium battery), can be used for a long time without complex wiring.

Adapt to a variety of terminals (PC, mobile phone, tablet), convenient for remote data analysis.

The portable plantar pressure plate uses pressure sensors to collect plantar force data, transmits it wirelessly to a computing device, and provides foot health and gait assessment reports in combination with software analysis. It is widely used in medicine, sports, rehabilitation and orthopedics.
