A foot pressure plate and a 3D foot scanner are both devices for measuring the foot.
However, there are fundamental differences between the two, such as the following points:
1、The measurement principles are different.
The foot pressure plate uses resistive or capacitive sensors to detect and measure the pressure distribution of different parts of the foot and related gait parameters when a person is standing still or walking dynamically.
The 3D foot scanner, on the other hand, uses laser principles to measure the foot, obtaining geometric data of the foot as well as three-dimensional model data, such as STL, OBJ, etc.
In simple terms, the foot pressure plate measures mechanics, while the 3D foot scanner measures geometric data.

2、The testing contents are different.
The foot pressure plate mainly tests: foot pressure distribution, center-of-pressure trajectory, balance, and static and dynamic data of left/right and front/back load.
The 3D foot scanner mainly tests: foot length, foot width, arch height, foot geometry, foot type categories, and so on.
3、The application scenarios are different.
The foot pressure plate is mainly used in rehabilitation institutions for gait analysis, functional impairment assessment, training feedback, reference data for corrective insoles design, and risk assessment for diabetic foot, etc.
The 3D foot scanner is mainly used in shoe retail stores, custom insoles, monitoring the foot growth of children and adolescents, and similar applications.
